   I highly doubt that pain would be allowed into video games of the future. One of the many great things about video games is that you can do anything WITHOUT the pain, and trying to make games too real will drive consumers away. I envision a world where the console will be replaced by a three dimensional interface, somewhat like Xbox's Kinect but capable of determining distance, position, shape, etc. instead of just motion.
   When it comes to viewing games, I don't think that a headset/goggles will be the answer. In the history of television and gaming, 3D glasses and the like have never reached the popularity of normal tv viewing.
   However, a very distant possibility is that game developers could create a matrix-esque platform that will allow an entire game to play out in one's mind while his or her body lies, unmoving, in some kind of specially designed chair. However, that could lead to insanity or mind control somewhere down the line, so I doubt that people will accept video games that can alter your perception of reality.
   All in all, I bet that the future of video games will be just like the past: a viewing screen that you don't need to wear or plug into your brain. In the future, though, our viewing screens could become 3D projections into the air or TV's that create a 3D environment.
   If this really does occur, then future gamers may have entertainment systems like the ones in Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. Citizens of this futuristic world would walk into a room where all 4 walls were television screens, and they could interact with what was on TV. So, someday there might be a room in every house that could transform from a blank box to a battlefield, and it reads your movements in the room and changes the environment in accordance.
