Is there really any such thing as high definition eyeglasses or sunshades?
You have hi def movies, video, and players of all types. But is hi def vision ware just another deceiful way to sell eyeware. There is no electronic devices to enhance vision through the lenses while the eyeware is on your face. Whats next hi def contact lenses?
Free Form lens manufacturing is what they call HD lenses.
You are right, there is nothing HD about them, it is a marketing ploy by the lens manufacturers just to jump on the HD bandwagon.
It is a different way of making the lenses though. Free Form lenses are computer corrected to adjust the curvature at 1000 points across the surface , supposedly to refract light at a more precise angle to the pupil, much like the facets on a diamond, but they are microscopic of course, and not visible to the eye.
Where the " HD" lenses can help is in higher prescriptions ( over - 4.00 ) in progressive bifocals by eliminating a lot of the peripheral distortions caused by edge thickness.
However, the central vision is no more HD or clearer than any other lens.
It also has no effect in single vision lenses regardless of the power. The high index aspheric lenses do the same job.
They are more expensive with no benefit at all outside of progressive lenses....and even then, only in high powers.
I talk patients out of spending more money on them all day , who think some miraculous lens will help them see in HD...until I can make them understand, we already do.
