I think it might be a matter of people being tired of Hollywood remaking old films, period. I know that remakes are nothing new. They have been doing them for years. It seems like lately, that's all that is being put out. It's almost like Hollywood is running out of ideas.
I have seen many remakes that I thought were as good or even better than the original. (The Birdcare, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Departed, The Ring) And many not so good. (Planet of the Apes, The Time Machine, pretty much any remake of Asian horror). I agree that it is kind of silly to say that all remakes are crap because the fact is, some are really good.
I guess you haven't heard there is new version of "The Electric Company" currently airing on PBS. I can't make a judgment on that one, I haven't seen it.
