Is there a connection between video game sales and social inability? ?

I just finished playing Fable and realized that once the credits were rolling I was transported back into my reality. I am in a situation where I have just moved and unfortunately have not had the chance to make a social circle. I started to think that perhaps video game sales would be higher in countries where people have a harder time meeting people due to the social traditions, media, standards and crime rates. America purchases almost four times as many video game consoles, than all of Europe. My thesis would be--in a wealthy country where there is a high rate of social inability, video games offer a drug like enhanced state of alter reality where the player finds his or her virtual world to be more appealing than the real environment they live in.

Oh I think most definitely theres a connection.. I love my boyfriend dearly and we've been together almost two years but he plays games for 13 hours a day sometimes and hes very socially awkward. I like to go out and meet people and I like to make people laugh and feel comfortable meeting new people. He on the other hand gets bored very easy, doesn't know what to say, and people pick up on that. A lot of his friends are the same way and I see that a lot. Sometimes its like an addiction because we will go and visit my family who live a few hours away and he will be irritable because hes "bored", and I think a lot of that has to do with there not being any video games readily available. He takes his PSP almost everywhere. I hate video games, I won't let my children play them when I have kids, or put a limit on them.

Virtual reality means to recreate, study and to educate others about cultural history and tradition. In addition virtual reality will be dealing with virtual worlds. The virtual reality that is being explained in this reading is not figurative but is fictitious. Virtual reality is “an imerrsive virtual environment first given technological form with invention of the Cave. “ (Jones pg 212) Howard Rheingold also defines that virtual reality is basically an experience which a person that is “surrounded by a 3-dimensional computer generated representation,” (Jones pg 212) where you are able to move in whatever ever virtual world you are in, be able to see it from various angles, to grab or try to touch it and to reshape it. Virtual reality is a system where it will present real-time viewers with interactive control. Even though virtual reality is virtual it can be as real as it can get. This reading was complex and not as easy to read as the other 2.
