Virtual Reality Games Play Online
If World of Warcraft had no way for users to communicate with other users during online play...?
...could one still progress through the game without verbal/linguistic cooperation with other players?
Could a user rely solely on reacting to the behaviors of other avatars--minus verbal/linguistic communication in the virtual reality? By 'behavior' I mean the other avatar's clothing, weapons, movement, body language (I guess in WoW, this means making them dance)) et cetera...

The parallel I'm running this question against is how verbal communication complements all other forms of communication (material behavior) but isn't necessarily the most important--sole--form of communication...
Hypothetically, yeah. In large groups, listening to and following leaders' directions is expected and failing to do it would be considered a reason to kick you out of the group.
But in content where organization is less crucial to meet game goals, it could even be fun. At least until you got a reputation for being glib (the character actions are funny) and independent. I've played in groups of 5 with players who I suspect don't speak my language. They never said anything in the chat channel and did not seem to understand or acknowledge chat directed at them, but still "acted friendly" enough through their avatar (join in dancing, smile, trade items, bow, step aside or wait for others) and obviously knew how to play their game role. I would've played with them again. Lots of skill (high value contribution to the group goals) can make up for a strange social presentation, as long as you're not hostile. Humor is definitely possible in the game without chat, and if it were original and spontaneous it could be a good way to communicate that you can't or won't chat. Generosity could help you keep friends too, if you shared in-game resources.
