Virtual Reality Systems

How do I start building virtual reality systems?
i have background in programming. any advice is good
any advice is great
never mind that last one
research, both online and at the library.
Then write a specification for the program you want to design. List the input and output and the user interface.
Then list all of the routines and subroutines you will need.
on and on...

Virtual reality computer glasses?
So, I know there are glasses you can hook up to your computer for videogaming and movies and stuff. But, though I don't remember who told me or where I heard it, I heard of computer glasses that allowed you to see every thing around you. I was told that they shined the screen into the side of your eye, and the picture spreads across your eyeball, so that you don't only see the screen, instead the screen lightly overlaps your normal vision. It is kind of like having icons in the air. I was also told there was an air touch type system, that allowed you to see a holographic keyboard in midair, and that you could type in midair. Same with the mouse, you tap an icon in midair to click on it. As I said, I can not remember where i heard this, but I was wondering if this accessory really exists, or if someone was yanking my leg. If so, where can I find information on it?
Have you ever looked into a projector? yea doesnt work. i highly doubt this. the finger recognition would be insane. Someting similar is this from popsci

Stelarc makes use of various technologies in his work such as prosthetics, medical instruments, virtual reality systems and the Internet to enhance his body. We see this through examples such as: ‘The Third Arm’, which uses a robotic attachment as an additional arm, ‘The Muscle Machine’ which again uses robotics and mechanics to create a hybrid human-robot machine controlled by the human body and ‘Movatar’: an exploration of moving a 3D virtual body using the physical body.
